Mahogany Bay Resort & Beach Club

The resort is made up of individual villas, and at first mine looked nice. But the shower stall was outdated, I found crumpled paper and trash left in the room, and there wasn't much of a view. My biggest issue as a solo traveller was the setup: my villa sat away from the main resort area, so reaching the front office meant waiting on a golf-cart pickup — and sometimes the wait felt long enough that I hitched a ride with someone passing by.

What I loved

A hotel driver was waiting for me at the San Pedro airport when I arrived
Quiet villa-style property if that's the setup you're after
Easy taxi access into San Pedro for restaurants and excursions

Good to know

Construction nearby — not next to my villa, but I could hear it inside
You need transportation to get around the property
I never made it to the private beach or the restaurants; there was too much else I wanted to see in Belize

My rating: 6/10. Would I stay again? No. As a woman travelling alone I'd rather have a front desk and staff nearby than a detached villa a golf-cart ride from the office.

Hamilton Princess & Beach Club

I chose the Hamilton Princess after reading so many great reviews, and unfortunately my experience didn't live up to them. My room was clean — extremely important to me — but the view looked out toward what reminded me of swampy water with fishermen and boats, not the Bermuda water I'd imagined. The service was the bigger disappointment: I wasn't escorted to my room or shown where to go, and some interactions with male staff left me uncomfortable rather than welcomed.

What I loved

Clean, well-kept room
Walking distance to Front Street, which made meeting tour guides easy
Convenient access to the ferry

Good to know

Hotel food was okay — not terrible, but nothing that made it a destination
Ask about the view before booking if the water matters to you
It's in Hamilton, not on the beach — if you want sand outside your door, look at a beachfront resort like the St. Regis

Would I stay again? No. It taught me I'd rather be on the beach, and that great reviews mean little if the service doesn't make me feel comfortable.

I booked this all-inclusive stay through CheapCaribbean for a quick birthday getaway, and the swim-out suite was one of the best decisions I made. Arrival felt like a vacation immediately — a welcome drink, staff clapping as guests walked in, and a butler who escorted me to my room and picked up the pizza I wanted from the Italian restaurant. I was nervous about being in Mexico alone and decided in advance not to leave the resort; there was more than enough here to keep me busy.

What I loved

The STAR Class swim-out suite with pool access straight off the patio
Butler service, including a welcome drink and a pizza run on my first night
Sunset Strip Steakhouse — the petit filet and crème brûlée were the food highlight of the trip
Spa massage plus an hour of complimentary hydrotherapy

Good to know

Several à la carte restaurants — I tried Gusto Italian Trattoria, Guy's! Burger Joint and La Cocina
Easy choice if you'd rather stay on property the whole trip
Staff made a birthday dinner feel special without me asking

Would I stay again? Yes. For a short solo trip where I wanted to eat, relax and celebrate myself, it delivered exactly that.

Montego Bay, Jamaica · Feb 2025 · Adults-only all-inclusive · Swim-out room

Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall

Breakfast is what this resort got exactly right — consistently on-time service, an American breakfast and a Jamaican breakfast I both loved, and Blue Mountain coffee I had every single morning. The swim-out room was the disappointment: the pool was fine, but my swim-out area sat directly in front of a resort walkway, so people walked past my room all day and there was basically no privacy.

What I loved

Breakfast and breakfast service — a genuine 10/10 for me
Blue Mountain coffee every morning
Urban Heatz by Flavor — the oxtails and beef stew were good enough that I went twice

Good to know

Ask exactly where a swim-out room is located before you pay extra for it
The spa was expensive and I didn't feel my concerns were listened to — I wouldn't book it again
Adults-only and all-inclusive, easy to stay on property

Would I stay again? For the breakfast and the food, yes — but I'd insist on a swim-out room away from the walkways, and I'd skip the spa.

Hanoi Dalvostro Valentino Hotel & Spa

My arrival at Hanoi Dalvostro Valentino Hotel & Spa was one of my favorite hotel welcomes. The team had been communicating with me through WhatsApp, and when I showed up at night they were waiting out front, helped with my bags and walked me straight to my room. The room was clean and comfortable — no view, but the location was perfect for walking around Hanoi — and a complimentary cocktail at the hotel bar after my food tour was a nice touch.

What I loved

Staff waited outside for my late-night arrival and helped with luggage
WhatsApp communication before and during my stay
Clean, comfortable room in a great walking location
Complimentary drink at the hotel bar after my Train Street evening

Good to know

My room didn't have much of a view — book a higher category if that matters to you
Location is ideal for exploring the Old Quarter on foot
Breakfast was included and the service was consistently warm

Would I stay again? Yes. The welcome, location and service made me feel comfortable traveling solo in Hanoi.

Chiang Mai, Thailand · 2 nights · Nov 2024 · Solo trip

POR Arak

POR Arak ended up being a really good choice for a short solo stay in Chiang Mai. Check-in was smooth, the front desk staff was welcoming, and the hotel felt modern and up to date. My room was very clean with a balcony overlooking the alley beside the hotel and the restaurant across the way, and the key card slot on the wall powered the lights, just like my hotel in Vietnam. Breakfast was a highlight — a huge display of food, and a staff member walked me through the Thai breakfast options.

What I loved

Breakfast buffet with a proper Thai breakfast and staff who explained the dishes
The same front desk staff member helped me order room service — the Thai fried rice with a fried egg was amazing
Laundry service that came back perfectly, including my muddy sneakers after the elephant excursion
Clean room with a balcony and city view

Good to know

The balcony view looks over the alley and the restaurant across the way, not a scenic view
I mostly used Grab rather than walking, and getting around was easy
Short stays work well here — everything I needed was handled at the front desk

Would I stay again? Yes. As a solo female traveler I felt safe, and between the food, cleanliness and helpful staff I would recommend POR Arak to other solo travelers.

St. John's, Antigua · Sept 2025 · 4 nights · Luxury Beach Front Room – Diamond Club

Royalton CHIC Antigua

I wanted to love this resort. My beachfront room was beautiful, the birthday decorations were thoughtful, and the spa delivered one of the best massages and facials I've ever had. But the Diamond Club butler experience had too many misses — a forgotten cabana decoration, a spa appointment that wasn't actually rescheduled, and small details that never materialized. The resort food was average at best, and Hunter Steakhouse was a disappointment. The room earned a 9/10; the resort as a whole earned a 2/10.

What I loved

Top-floor beachfront room with a balcony I could sunbathe on
Birthday room decorations were a lovely surprise
Regenerative massage and facial at the spa — genuinely excellent
Antigua itself felt extremely safe for solo female travel

Good to know

Diamond Club butler service missed several details I had confirmed ahead of time
Room-service breakfast arrived late and wasn't memorable
Hunter Steakhouse steak and lobster were both dry and took forever
Pescari Over Water Restaurant had a beautiful setting but slow service
I would return to Antigua, but not to this resort

My resort rating: 2/10. Would I stay again? No. The room and spa were bright spots, but the service gaps made the Diamond Club upgrade feel pointless. I would absolutely return to Antigua solo — just with a different hotel.

Crest Resort & Pool Villas

I booked Crest Resort & Pool Villas mainly for the swim-out room I saw in a YouTube review, but the room I received was very different. It was the swim-out closest to a guest bridge, so people walked past constantly, and the swim-out connected to the main pool — other guests swam right into the area outside my room. The room itself was clean and attractive, and the front-desk staff were friendly while helping with my lost luggage, but the floating breakfast was late and disappointing and the room service food was not good.

What I loved

Clean, attractive room
Friendly front-desk staff who helped with my luggage situation
Excellent traditional Thai massage at the hotel spa
Grab was affordable for the hour-long airport trips

Good to know

Ask about swim-out room location and privacy before booking
My swim-out connected to the main pool, so guests swam into my outdoor space
Floating breakfast arrived late and the food quality was poor
Resort is approximately one hour from Phuket International Airport
Room service food was disappointing

My rating: 5/10. Would I stay again? No. The swim-out did not feel private, and the disappointing resort food made the stay frustrating.
